The National Park
Machalilla covers an area of 55'000 ha as well as two islands close to the
coast, Isala de la Plata and Isla Salango. Over 100 species of birds are
living in the park. Furthermore the park is very famous for its
archaeological finds of the Machalilla culture.
Day 1, Sunday: In the afternoon travel from Quito in direction Puerto Lopez by coach.
Day 2, Monday: Arrival in Puerto Lopze in the early morning. Breakfast. Move into your accommodation in the hostel. 4 hours Spanish classes. In the afternoon walk through the fisherman's place Puerto Lopez.
Day 3, Tuesday: 4 hours Spanish classes. Excursion to the beach of Los Frailes, one of the greatest beaches in South America.
Day 4, Wednesday: 4 hours Spanish classes. In the afternoon visit of the place Salango.
Day 5, Thursday: In the morning visit of the National Park Machalilla. You will hear a lot worth knowing about the Machalilla culture. In the afternoon 4 hours Spanish classes.
Day 6, Friday: 4 hours Spanish classes. In the early afternoon travel back to Quito.
Prolongation Isla de la Plata
On Saturday an excursion the the famous Isla de la Plata can be
organised off one's own bat. In Puerto Lopez guided
tours can be booked as well.
From July to September wales can be watched around the Isla de la Plata.
Furthermore many species of birds and sea turtles can be observated. If
you have to do without Galápagos, Isla de la Plata is a good alternative.
You can travel back to Quito Saturday evening or Sunday morning.
